There are many sermons and messages that tell us the importance of seeking God in our daily lives, but are not always as clear on teaching us how. I want to share with you out of my own Christian experience how I seek God for His direction and hear His wisdom. In the Bible we read of the many times God spoke audibly and directly to the receiver through various methods. We now have His Holy Spirit residing on the inside of us as born again believers to speak God’s word and wisdom directly to our hearts. We receive God’s wisdom through our hearts which then translates to our minds to understand how to apply it to our situations. I simply ask Holy Spirit to guide me in the truth and wisdom of God in whatever area I need direction in. You can actually talk to the Father, Son and/or Holy Spirit because they are one. John 16:13 states, “But when He, the Spirit of Truth(the Truth giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears from the Father. He will give the message that has been given to Him, and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].‘The Bible tells us the role of Holy Spirit is to speak and teach us the truth. You may not hear the answer the moment you ask in faith, however the answer was sent the moment you asked in faith and you will receive it. I often hear the wisdom of God speak to my heart when I am reading His word in the Bible, or in my prayer time. When I am quiet enough to hear is when I notice I receive answers. This happens once I stop trying to figure things out on my own and really give my mind a needed rest. I have learned that the Lord can’t help us when we keep trying to do it ourselves without allowing Him to get involved.
Worry and self effort are very often root causes to not hearing from God as Christians. It creates a spiritual imbalance alternating between faith and fear which is the root cause of worrying. Don’t allow these things to rob you anymore from walking in the wisdom of God in every situation. Hearing God’s wisdom and direction is part of our relationship with Him. It was never intended for this to be something that only a few really spiritual few could experience, but for all of His children.
Remember that God wants all of us to win in life and experience a loving relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. His desire is that we cultivate our relationship with Him so we can always feel confident and trust that He will deliver and bless throughout our lives. Spend time reading His word so you will know what His word says about any situation. Here are some scriptures that I pray will help you begin hearing and operating in the wisdom of God in your daily dealings.
